One hundred years ago today, residents of Mortdale presented Dr Webb with an illuminated address to thank him for his unselfish, painstaking and energetic efforts to combat the influenza epidemic.
In the 1930s, an outbreak of diphtheria prompted local Councils to introduce inoculation against the disease. The campaign was dramatically successful.
